it was finally here the weekend we had all been waiting for rebelmainia wales 2009 and a chance to take all my mates in tr7s around the twisty turns of wales
friday angela and alan went to wales first and spent the night in our hotel the elan rayhader greg travelled up from dover to spend the night at dave n sues and nosher checked times with myself and we aranged to meet at clackett lane services for breakfast as the kent gang did not want breakfast we got to the services at 720am and had a full english a very small one to what we would be getting in wales the kent team dave sue n greg turned up at 750 am and we tuned our 2 way radios in and walked to our cars dave was acting very strange and nosh was looking forward to seeing daves new ac cobra car dave had sold his tr7 v8 & tr6 to buy this car when we got to the cars there was a tr7 v8 with our group it seems sue had bought dave a nother tr7v8 for the weekend trip WHAT A WOMAN after looking at daves new car it was on our way and dave sped off after 10 mins dave was told to slow down over the 2 way radios and he did and fell into the agreed convoy position man with new toy testing it a
we then carried on untill we had got to the bridge services and we were now in wales and the others had tea and cakes like a true english sports car club but being back in wales myself n mags had cheese n onion sandwiches ? this is when dave told sue he wanted to put the roof down on his new toy sue did not have a hat but luckily i had some club base ball caps in our tr7 so sue was now ready for what ever dave did
now in wales i decided to give it the big one and i knew the gang could handle the trs and would love it
we got to the hotel at 2.30pm 2 & 1/2 hours later than planned due to road works got to the rooms and meet don the boss with a warm welcome and soon met alan n angela from bristol after a drink chat and walk around town it was time to start our 1st run to the elan valley and dams
the sound of 5 tr7s leaving the hotel was the biz as 3 were V8s before ;leaving the hotel i had arranged that we would have our evening meal at 8pm i new this was very late for nosher we headed off for the dams and at one dave decided that as he had welsh blood as well he wanted the welsh sun on his belly very nice dave after visiting all 5 dams it was off to the waterfull for a group photos and a climb at this point it was more like a climbing trip rather than a classic tr weekend trip
nosher then told me it was 7.40pm and dinner was 8pm and we had been out 1 1/2 hours and would miss dinner i confonted him and told him we had driven a big circle and were only 3 miles from the hotel so we left the elan village and on to a road that was only the size of a tr7 and back to the hotel
at dinner i had told every one the dinners come up very big here but nosher n greg ordered the 3 courses and there 1st course the soup would have done me all day let alone the cheese n biscuits at the end now everyone was stuffed it was off to bed and a 9 am breakfast another big meal
myself n mags were last down and the rest had started on the grapfruit cereals and toast tea n juices i could see we would not have to stop for food today as we still had the full english to come yet
after getting the gang to the trs after being so stuffed it was now day 2 and a blast around the mountains to our first stop the haunted mine
alan was not to keen on this stop and said he did not like ghosts but everybody else loved it and we had a good 30 mins here and had a group photo where the ghost normally shows himself it was then back in the trs and on to devils bridge where the teas were ordered in and a walk up the hill to see the steam train
i was a bit worried to see alan falling down the bank by the train when i aske angera what he was doing she told me that i had said if you climb the bank you can get a good photo of the train from the bridge i said i ment take the steps at the end must be a essex /bristol accent problem glad to say alan was ok it was then of to the seaside the town of aberystwyth where we meet up with the welsh mini club that was having a 50th anniversary display on the sea front it was then back to the hotel and to put dave n sue to bed as they were worn out and the rest of us sat in the hotel garden and welsh sun untill 7.45 when we woke dave n sue for our sunday roast beef dinner and A FIRST nosher could not clean his plate ? that was the end of day 2
day 3 after another big brekfast alan n angela said they would have to head of back to bristol for a rest and could not finish our last bit my tour down memory lane and a walking tour of rhayader so we waved goodbye untill the tr national and we set off walking and the high lite was going into bill n jeans cottage and jean letting the gang taking photos inside i had not seen bill n jean for around 7 years but had to cut the talking short due to the journey home after filling up with petrol dave told me he had a misfire if he dropped below 90 mph and greg a wheel wobble if below 75 mph so when back in england we waved goodbye to the kent gang and ourselfs n nosher travelled back in convoy until the dartford crossing and a return to canvey island & romford so that was the end of rebelmainia 2009 lookout for rebelmainia 2010 or if you can not wait then keep watching our reports
